Is DigitalPoint Going Down The Drain?

The (BST) buy, sell, and trade forums is still a mess because people are not following the rules that were set almost 2 months ago. Thousands and thousands of infractions have been given in the last 2 months but it does not seem to get any better. Personally I’ve given up way too many hours of my own time moderating that crap. (quoted from Digital Point)
It’s about time someone lowered the boom on many hundreds of people trolling through the DP forums doing what there not supposed to be doing.
aaron_nimocks was brutal and no mercy was shown as he mowed his way through BST rubber stamping literally hundreds of accounts.
Of course all the whiny threads and posts following this momentous occasion were quickly quashed as more infractions and banning occurred. When you join a forum, it makes perfect sense to get familiar with the rules of that forum. Digital Point is no different then any other forum, they all have their rules and your expected to abide by them, or else.

How many times have i seen a thread at DP with that title? Many many threads are started by people asking that very same question. I think the biggest problem is no one takes the time to read the rules and stickies, so they do something wrong, get an infraction and whine about it.
The most violated rule at Digital Point is making useless posts, its gotta be, there all over the place. Someone will start a thread, post all the needed information for prospective buyers and the idiocy begins. “PM me the info please”, “I have sent you a PM”, “PM me your PayPal info” and other equally stupid remarks.
Sometimes the OP (original poster) is too blame. They will start a sales thread with the instructions to “post here for more info”, which is also against the rules. If you have a question that hasn’t been addressed in the first post and will benefit all, by all means ask it, if not, play it safe and PM the OP with your questions, they have to accept PM’s, its the rule.
My last entry involved Sticky Threads. In addition to the FAQ/Rules, they contain everything you’ll need to know in order to dodge those pesky infractions. All you need are 10 to catch a ban.
“Infractions are used as a mechanism to track violation of rules/guidelines by users.
Individually, an infraction doesn’t do much of anything (unless it’s a severe infraction), but if a user continues to accrue infractions within a certain timeframe, their account can be temporarily suspended.”
Quoted from DP’s faq page.

New rules are in place at the DigitalPoint forums and its a good idea to be familiar with them, otherwise you’ll start to rack up infraction points. mcfox posted a brief synopsis of some of the most violated rules at DP, read it here. Now this brief synopsis is by no means the whole list of rules, so pay attention to all stickies in all forums as its your responsibility to be familiar with the rules and to follow them.
The following stickies should be read by all:
Crazy_Rob says: Changes to the BST - Read or Receive Infractions
ViciousSummer says: Infractions - Please Read
Smyrl says: Types of posts subject to BUMPING infractions
How hard is it to read a few posts to get familiar with the rules? Evidently it must be real hard because I see people everyday breaking the rules constantly. Take a moment to read the stickies located in Suggestions and Feedback and the Buy Sell Trade areas at DP.
rochow posted a good one and should be required reading for new members, have a look here.
If your intent on breaking the rules, you will be banned, personally I don’t care, good riddance to you. If your intent on becoming a quality member with good ethics, then hooray for you and enjoy yourself, I do. ![]()

Yeah, and its all over the place. It’s hard to find good quality stuff these days without having to wonder if the person your getting it from got theirs from a warez site, and there are plenty of them on the internet these days. Recently rapishare.com and rapidshare.de had gone offline to deal with an overabundance of illegal files on their servers. They didn’t do a very good job cause there’s still lots there.
You may see something for sale that you want bad, but unless its on the up and up, you’ll lose in the long run. How can you expect support from a warez purchase? You can’t.
Heres a classic example of someone trying to sell something they aren’t supposed to be selling, and all it got them was banned. They also had their site taken down. Way to go Hostgator. Watch out for the clone wars, you’ll get stung there too.

Title says it all. Users at DP forums have been receiving PM’s that are nothing more then a phishing attack.

It’s very important to never share your passwords with anyone.
Gimme a break.
Use hard to guess passwords and don’t tell anyone what they are. Protect your computer with a good anti-virus program and always check for spyware.
And never ever share your passwords with anyone.

More and more people are falling victim to internet scams. The more popular one it seems is currency exchanges. A person needs to exchange PayPal for MoneyBookers or E-Gold, or some combination, so they search out the webmaster forums of the world seeking prey, and they usually find it.
When you are involved in the exchange of currency, its best to find out as much as possible about the person your dealing with. Check their forum profile, read comments left by others who have dealt with this person, read about some of their older deals, see how they went.
Never make a deal solely through the use of instant messaging, if someone contacts you and desires an exchange, make them message you through the forum they are known at, thus proving at least they are who they say they are. Its probably much safer to not deal with people who aren’t established.
A good guide to online financial transactions, posted by karl turnbull can be found here at Digital Point. Another good reference was posted by Notting and can be read here.
Deals like these are found at places like TalkGold, Digital Point, The V7 Network, Site Point Forums and many others. Members of these forums have their posts and iTraders kept track of so they can be viewed and in the case of posts, commented on. This gives us the ability to see and try to find out what kind of person we are getting ready to give money too. Remember, if a deal sounds too good, its probably not.
Report and discuss internet scammers.

Lately it seems I am reading more and more threads regarding a scam. “Beware of This Person” the thread title reads, and off I go reading yet another thread about some rat screwing someone out of money.
I was just at the V7 Network, reading, you guessed it, a scam thread. This one starts out pretty much like all the others with one exception, the OP is in fear of his and his families safety. He is afraid to post any information about a link scam going on at the Digital Point forums.
There is too much of this going on and it needs to stop. It never will though, its hard to cure gullible or sleazy.
